Machu Picchu capacity increased since June! Ministry of Culture increases capacity to 5600 visitors

A protocol has been approved to regulate visits to Machu Picchu, the famous Peruvian archeological site. This new protocol establishes that the maximum number of people per day will be 5,600, in an effort to preserve and protect this heritage site.

Ministerial Resolution N° 000207-2024-MC, signed by Minister Leslie Urteaga, confirms what has already been announced regarding the capacity of visits to Machu Picchu. A maximum capacity of 5600 people per day has been established to enter the llaqta.

The Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Leslie Urteaga, has approved the Ministerial Resolution N°000207-2024-MC that confirms what had been previously announced about the maximum capacity to visit the citadel of Machu Picchu, which will be 5600 people per day.

The Ministry of Culture has given its approval for the protocol of visits to the Llaqta of Machu Picchu. Ministerial Resolution N° 000207-2024-MC, signed by Leslie Urteaga, Minister of Mincul, establishes the different circuits allowed and the maximum capacity of people that can visit the main tourist attraction in the imperial city of Cusco.

A recent resolution confirmed what had been previously announced about the maximum capacity allowed to visit Machu Picchu. During the period from June 1 to October 15, 2024 and from December 30 to 31 also of that year, only a maximum of 5600 people per day will be allowed to visit the llaqta.

A new tourist route has been created to reach the citadel of Machu Picchu, also known as the llaqta.

This new circuit offers a different and unique experience for travelers wishing to explore this impressive archaeological site. In addition, this initiative seeks to decongest the flow of visitors and better preserve the site.

The Ministry of Culture has announced a new measure to visit Machu Picchu that will take effect from June 2024. In the meantime, the already established tours will continue until May 31 of this year.

Within the new provisions, there is also a maximum tolerance for entering the Llaqta of Machu Picchu. It states that during off-peak times, there will be a 30-minute grace period, and during high seasons, a 45-minute grace period. Beyond this timeframe, tourists will not be allowed entry, emphasizing the importance of carefully planning the visit to Machu Picchu.
